Captain Marvel First Reviews Are In….
“Captain Marvel” is soaring following advanced press screenings on Tuesday. Reactions from early showings have hit Twitter, and audiences are keen on Marvel’s first female-led standalone movie. Critics are praising Brie Larson’s performance as Carol Danvers, the nostalgic ’90s setting, and the cosmic sci-fi elements.
Captain Marvel is an upcoming American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Carol Danvers. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is set to be the twenty-first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe(MCU). The film is written and directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, with Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Jac Schaeffer also contributing to the screenplay. Brie Larson stars as Danvers, alongside Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Annette Bening, Clark Gregg, and Jude Law. Set in 1995, the story follows Danvers as she becomes Captain Marvel after the Earth is caught in the center of a galactic conflict between two alien worlds.
Read some of the first reactions below:
Jim Vejvoda from IGN says the movie has “just enough ’90s nostalgia without overdoing it.”
Ash Crossan from ET says “Captain Marvel is (Takes Deep 90's Breath) TOTALLY AWESOME. Never related to a Marvel character quite like Carol. She’s the stubborn witty 90s kid I like to think I am.”
Perri Nemiroff from Collider says “The future of the MCU gets even brighter adding #CaptainMarvel to the mix. Really fell for @brielarson’s sass, strength & energy in the role. Same with @LashanaLynch too! Ben Mendelsohn is A+ casting as Talos. And yes, Goose is a scene stealer. 2nd viewing can’t come soon enough. “
Eric Eisenberg from Cinemablend says “Captain Marvel# is a blast! Has some cool surprises that I definitely didn't see coming, and the mystery/origin it weaves is engaging and fun. Brie Larson is awesome, and makes a fantastic first step into the MCU.”
Peter Sciretta from Slashfilm says “ #CaptainMarvel is a great origin story. Brie’s buddy cop chemistry with @SamuelLJackson is so much fun and her relationship with Lashana Lynch is the real heart of it. Ben Mendelsohn and the cat both steal the show. “
There are also some other critics who had reacted to the film
Gregory Ellwood from the Playlist says Captain Marvel is a mixed bag. First half is slow and uninspired. Second half much better. Feels like directors could not escape Marvel formula. Mendelson steals the move. VfX of full Marvel powers much better than trailers.”
Drew Taylor from Moviefone says he “Really loved #CaptainMarvel. It’s a little wobbly at times but only because it’s so ambitious. It’s beautifully constructed, hilarious and offers tons of surprises. @brielarson obviously rules but Ben Mendelsohn is the surprise MVP. “
The story is here is that Marvel has yet again struck gold even with critics who had minor gripes with it. The overall consensus is that the film is great. I’m very excited to see the first female led marvel movie be met with such great respect. The film comes out soon, with the anticipation of Avengers: Endgame to arrive soon after. My thoughts on the manner is that i’d like to reserve judgement until I see the film. However it is nice to know that the newest release of Marvel Studios is still up to par. I hope my article helped in the final decision you make in regards to the film.
