The fresh new Shazam! which looks to be delivering the goods with it’s superlative tone of Big meets Superman according to it’s marketing especially with this most recent promo released by Warner Bros. The film has officially received a PG-13 Rating given to them by MPAA.
Seeing this has made me ponder about this upcoming film. Shazam! is an upcoming American superhero film based on the DC Comics character of the same name. Produced by New Line Cinema, it is intended to be the seventh installment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Directed by David F. Sandberg from a screenplay by Henry Gayden, and a story by Gayden and Darren Lemke, the film is set to star Asher Angel as Billy Batson, a teenage boy who can transform via the magic word "Shazam" into an adult superhero, played by Zachary Levi. Shazam! also features Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Faithe Herman, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans and Djimon Hounsou as supporting characters. It will be the first film version of the character since the 1941 serial Adventures of Captain Marvel(the character's original name) and will be the first full-length feature film centered around the character.
The development leading up to this film had been long and hard with early talks as back early 2008 with Dwayne Johnson in titular role until deciding to sign up for the role of Black Adam. With the former DCEU slowly dying out and this new brighter one seeping in I got to say I am looking forward to the picture. I’m a big fan of the cast and the director. Not to mention it seems like Walter Hamada who produced the most recent Warner Bros. horror movies such as IT, The Conjuring, Annabelle & Insidious. Who has said they’ll be scaling back on the shared universe and making the studio a more director centric studio similar to Disney’s Marvel Studios with Kevin Feige. Which can be prominently seen with Hamada’s new direction. However with Aquaman breaking and joining the billion dollar club. I have high hopes for the film. I’m not really too surprised with the rating according to Michael Kennedy at Screenrant states the MPAA rated Shazam! PG-13 due to the inclusion of "intense sequences of action, language, and suggestive material."
Which is reasonable I’m very excited for the prospects of this film with the DC films on the up and up after a year long break and it’s impactful return with their most recent picture. A Superman cameo has been talked about as well as a post credit scene with the amazing Black Adam which wouldn’t hurt but like all of you i’ll be there with my ticket in hand excited of what i’m going to see. So what are your thoughts on the new Shazam! Are you on board? Are you excited let me know down below.
